Looking for ways to prepare your home for summer?

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Have you ever thought about how important it is to prepare your home for summer? Now is the time to take a look around your home, inside and out, to make sure you’re not wasting money.

KXAN’s Rich Segal speaks with Stephanie Dempsey. She is the education and outreach specialist for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Take Care of Texas initiative. She talks about several things homeowners can do to make sure their homes are energy efficient.

This includes checking air conditioning units, air ducts and windows. She explains why it’s so important to change the direction of your ceiling fans.

Stephanie also covers exterior home aspects that will help you prepare your home for summer. This includes tasks like cleaning your gutters and downspouts, as well as checking your water systems. You want to make sure that when you water outside, you’re watering your lawns and plants…not your sidewalk.
