Meet GMA Star George Stephanopoulos’ Two Daughters, Elliott and Harper

George Stephanopoulos loves nothing more than being a dad, and despite his serious job on Good Morning America, when it comes to being a dad, he seems like a lot of fun!

The longtime news anchor shares Elliott, 21, and Harper, 19, with wife Ali Wentworth, and is incredibly proud of all of their accomplishments.

He also wants to be involved in all of their interests, which saw him attend a Taylor Swift concert, complete with friendship bracelets, with his daughters and wife in 2023.

George and Ali’s daughters both live away from home, and while the couple struggled with the transition to childless parents when Harper left for college in 2023, they’re now enjoying their newfound freedom and are closer than ever with their kids. So what do we know about Elliott and Harper? Read on to get to know George’s daughters.

Eliott Anastasia Stephanopoulos

Elliott was born on September 9, 2002, just one year after George and Ali got married. The 21-year-old is currently a student at Brown University and is now living in London as part of the university’s study abroad program. Elliott has stayed out of the spotlight, but her parents have referenced her on their social media accounts, as well as on Ali’s popular podcast, Go ask Ali.

More recently, she made her television debut in Hello AmericaElliott helped the team behind the scenes while George was in London covering Princess Kate’s cancer battle. George told his co-presenters Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan and Rebecca Jarvis during a live report from London: “Hey guys, before you go, I’ve got a special production assistant here in London today.” Elliott then appeared briefly on screen and waved before quickly walking out of frame, prompting George to remark: “Oh no, she got shy really quickly!”

She then briefly answered the call to the delight of her dad’s co-hosts, who joked, “I decided to put her to work today,” while grinning ear to ear, and Robin joked, “It’s great to see even just a glimpse of her… enjoy your time there.”

Elliott’s departure for college, especially as the oldest daughter, was complicated for her parents. She left for Brown University late because she tested positive for COVID the day she was supposed to go. At the time, the rules required her to isolate for 10 days, which gave Ali and George a little more time with her at home.

Ali explained on her podcast: “So we both sat there for ten days and thought, ‘What if we really missed each other?’ ‘What if I came to visit you?’ ‘What if I wanted to go home?’ ‘What if I cried all the time?’ ‘What if I didn’t make any friends?’ and we literally went through every scenario, and by the time I took her to college, we had our own weird therapy group to comfort each other. Now she’s really thriving at college.”

In 2017, George and Ali both paid tribute to Elliott by revealing to the public that she had scoliosis. At the time, the couple shared a collage of photos of Elliott wearing her brace, and both posted messages on their respective social media accounts. Ali wrote, “I’m so proud of my daughter wearing her brace every day!” George tweeted, “I’m so proud of my daughter Elliott. She wears a brace every day.”

Harper Andrea Stephanopoulos

Harper was born on June 2, 2005, and attends Vanderbilt University in Nashville. George’s co-star Lara Spencer also has a daughter, Katharine, who attends the same university. Harper is the youngest in the family, which made her move to college all the more difficult for her parents. When she left in August 2023, Ali wrote on Instagram, “We dropped our baby off at college. Everyone says ‘she’s ready to go’! But… I don’t think I’m ready!”

“I don’t want to stop making pasta with vodka sauce, picking up wet towels, snuggling with her familiar smell. As Joni Mitchell once wrote, ‘The bed is too big, the pan too wide.’” She continued, “I know our daughter will thrive. But boy, is it brutal on parents. If you feel like it, send me some baked goods. I’ll be under my covers.”

Harper’s personality was revealed by her mother Ali in a sweet tribute message just before she left home. On her high school graduation, the Ali’s Well that Ends Well author wrote, “The little girl is off and running! A perpetually optimistic, joyful, generous, empathetic, funny, and wise human being is spreading her wings! Overflowing with love and pride! P.S. You know she’s my daughter because she ran out after graduation and bought an ice cream cone across the street.”

Harper and her sister Elliott have made several red carpet appearances with their famous parents over the years at special events. Most recently, in 2023, they joined their mom and dad at their film shoot cute babyin New York. They were joined by Brooke Shields, a close family friend.
