Peaky Blinders fans will be ‘shocked’ by film

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has spoken of the shock and joy fans will feel when they finally see the next film.

Speaking to NME, Knight confirmed that film plans for the hit series were progressing well and that “it would happen in September”.

“I’m currently making the final adjustments, which will continue until the day before filming begins. But here we are. We’ve got everything sorted, we’ve got all the necessary commitments, we’re ready to go,” he shared.

Knight is confident the film will live up to expectations and allow fans to come together to share the experience. He attributes this to the larger budget and the dedication of the cast and crew.

“I think the film is going to take another step forward and it’s going to be great that Peaky fans can come together in one place and watch it. The budget will be bigger, but also because we know we’re finishing this chapter, we’re all going to try to do our best.”

Asked about fans’ reaction to the film, Knight described it as an emotional roller coaster. “I hope they’re shocked, delighted, horrified, then delighted again, then shocked again!” he said.

“Cillian (Murphy) is really up for it. So I can’t wait for filming to start,” he added, referring to the actor’s return to his starring role as Tommy Shelby.

Murphy may have won an Oscar, but he hasn’t forgotten his brilliant work on television despite all his accolades. “Isn’t that amazing? I’m so happy for him because he deserves it,” Knight said of Murphy’s success.

“After every award he won, he would text back saying, ‘I’m really looking forward to doing Peaky,’ confirming that none of this was going to change what we were going to do next.”

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
