Whitney Port is ready to try surrogacy again after suffering miscarriages

Whitney Port shares an update on her surrogacy journey.

Talk with E! News last month, The hills The 39-year-old star opened up about her past miscarriages, noting that “at first it was hard” for her to talk about them publicly.

“I got all these comments and questions: ‘Are you doing this?’ or ‘Have you seen this doctor?’ And I was really confused and then a little numb,” she told the outlet. “But now I feel so much stronger after going through this.”

Port has previously spoken openly about her fertility issues, explaining that she suffered three miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy. After resorting to surrogacy, Port also said that her surrogate mother had lost two children of her own.

The star and her husband Tim Rosenman decided to put their surrogacy journey on hold last November, with Rosenman saying the couple were worried “something was going to happen with the surrogate or our embryos” on the Port podcast. With Whit.

“I took a little bit of a break from my fertility situation,” Port told E! News. “I decided to take a few months off to not think about it, talk about it, and do something proactively to be able to take care of myself.”

Now that she’s had some rest, Port is ready to get back to it. “After several attempts here, with myself and a surrogate, we’re going to do another round of egg retrievals in New York,” she explained. “And in the meantime, we’re looking for a surrogate for the next transfer.”

While she noted she was grateful to have been able to carry her son Sonny Sanford, who turns 7 this month, Port said she didn’t feel like she had to go through the experience again.

“I didn’t feel the closest to Sonny during my pregnancy or after I gave birth,” Port said. “I really started to connect with him fully when he was a little boy.”

In April, Port spoke with PEOPLE about the possibility of undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) again. Fertility, unfiltered — a video series that details the journey to parenthood.

“Right now, after two miscarriages with the surrogate and several miscarriages on my own, I’m at a point where I’m starting to think about the possibility of carrying a child again,” Port said at the time.

“I’m going through a lot of tests to see if I’m really capable of it. Right now I’m thinking and finding out what we want because it’s been a long process and I don’t want my happiness and everything I have to be overshadowed by this.”
