Traffic stop leads to gun arrest in Jefferson County | WWTI

PHILADELPHIA, NY (WWTI) – A 43-year-old Alexandria Bay man is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop in the city of Philadelphia.

On Monday, around 9 p.m., New York State Police based in Watertown conducted a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 truck with expired registration on Irish Ave in the city of Philadelphia.


The operator, identified as Travis Wright, was wanted by Watertown police on an active arrest warrant. A search of the vehicle uncovered two 30-round magazines and an AR rifle with no serial number.

Wright was arrested for criminal possession of a firearm, which is a class “E” felony, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. That charge is a class “D” felony.

He was fined for the following offences:

  • Driving a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate
  • Driving a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Driving an unregistered vehicle
  • Inappropriate plates
  • No license
  • Aggravated driving of a motor vehicle without a license

Wright was transported to State Police Headquarters in Watertown for processing and turned over to the Watertown Police Department to answer to his charges.
