The microphones were captured when Joe Schoen learned that Brian Burns was available

For the first time, Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants gives us a glimpse into how an NFL team approaches the transactional and open period of the league’s schedule. It’s a radical departure from the usual training camp (as with the New York Jets) or in-season period (as with the Miami Dolphins) of recent years.

The first episode already shared a juicy bombshell regarding how New York finally got franchise pass-rusher Brian Burns.

This is a conversation between Giants general manager Joe Schoen, Bills general manager Brandon Beane and Panthers general manager Dan Morgan. While Schoen tried (and failed) to trade the Giants’ sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to Beane, Morgan let slip that he’s open to hearing offers for veteran Burns.

Schoen’s gleeful reaction makes it clear that this is likely when the Giants planted the seed of the idea to acquire Burns:

Look, if an offseason Hard knocks will give us great little details like this, I’m all for the NFL continuing to produce more and more documentary-style reporting. It will never get old. Next, I want to see how Daniel Jones reacted to New York’s selection of Malik Nabers.

Please continue, friends!
