Playground closed after two girls and their father received electric shocks

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — A playground in Palm Beach Gardens remains closed after two children and their father were shocked Saturday.

The incident happened at the Burns Road playground near the community center, located at 10406 ​​N Military Trail.

The children, ages 9 and 3, were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center with burns to their bodies. Both were treated and released. The father did not require treatment for his injuries.

The children’s mother told authorities they received electric shocks when they grabbed the metal railings of the ramp leading to the toilet.

An attorney told WPTV that the victims’ family is considering filing a lawsuit.

On Tuesday afternoon, a woman who had brought her two grandsons to the park called the situation “scary” and said it reminded her of Father electrocuted at Harbourside Place in Jupiter last October.

This is where several children were shocked when they entered the fountain, and adults were also shocked when they tried to save them.

At the Palm Beach Gardens playground, a city spokesperson confirmed that the park was closed Saturday following the injuries, adding, “We believe this was the result of a malfunction in the air conditioning unit located above the facility.”

On Tuesday afternoon, two men from an electrician’s service were seen repairing the device. When asked if the problem had been solved, one of them nodded.

The playground remains closed.
