Jake DeBrusk’s Farewell Message to Bruins Fans:After seven seasons with the Bruins — the team that originally drafted him in 2015 — Jake DeBrusk left Boston earlier this week at the start of NHL free agency.

By agreeing to a seven-year contract worth an average annual value of $5.5 million with the Canucks, DeBrusk will get a fresh start next season. Before finalizing his departure from Boston, he not only discussed his former teammates’ reaction to his decision, but also offered a farewell message to Bruins fans.

In a social media post, DeBrusk thanked Boston fans for their support.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” DeBrusk wrote.

“I thank everyone I’ve had the chance to meet and know over my last seven years with the Black and Gold,” he added. “Boston will always have a special place in my heart, thanks to my teammates I’ve wrestled alongside and the fans who have been with me since the beginning!”

During his time, DeBrusk helped the Bruins reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2019 and have the best regular season in modern NHL history in 2023. His best statistical season came in 2023, when he recorded 50 points (23 goals, 27 assists).

Anecdote:Jake DeBrusk’s father, Louie, was also an NHLer, playing the majority of his 401 career games with the Oilers. He was drafted by the Rangers in 1989, but never played for New York due to a trade to Edmonton in 1991. Which future Hall of Famer was sent to New York in the deal (along with DeBrusk and two other players who went the other way)?

(Answer below).

Hint: Winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1983-84, he won five Cups with Edmonton and one with New York.

Jaylen Brown got his ring back:After losing a ring during the Celtics’ euphoric (and chaotic) victory parade, Jaylen Brown found it thanks to two fans. He then surprised them, creating a sweet interaction:

That day:In 2011, the Red Sox won on runs scored on an error and a Kevin Youkilis walk with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, earning a 2-1 victory over the Astros. Josh Beckett struck out 11 batters in eight innings to get the win, with Jonathan Papelbon striking out all three batters in the ninth inning for the save.

Highlight of the day:Clinging to a 2-1 lead in a European Championship round of 16 match against Austria, Turkey needed every inch of 1.95m goalkeeper Mert Günok to preserve victory on Tuesday.

Günok was highly effective, making one of the best saves in recent tournament history to deny a header from Christoph Baumgartner on the goal line. Turkey held on to win and advance to face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
