Homes evacuated after garbage truck fire in Mesa

MESA, AZ (AZ family) — A garbage truck fire prompted evacuations in Mesa early Wednesday morning.

According to a spokesperson for the city of Mesa, a municipal garbage truck caught fire on Holmes Avenue near S Horne and US 60. Nearby homes have been evacuated. Arizona’s Family has reached out to find out exactly how many homes were affected.

According to Mesa officials, the truck is a compressed natural gas truck.m The vehicle is on fire and the tanks are emitting gas. Firefighters let the contents burn while they work to extinguish the flames.

Authorities are still trying to determine what started the fire.
