Rob Brydon has broken his silence on negative reports surrounding his Gavin and Stacey co-star James Cordon.

The 59-year-old Welsh actor is working again with the Late Late Show star, 45, as he reprises his role as beloved Uncle Bryn in the BBC sitcom this Christmas.

James, who shot to stratospheric fame in Los Angeles thanks to his Carpool Karaoke show featuring Hollywood’s biggest stars, has found himself at the center of numerous reports about his alleged off-screen behavior in recent years.

However, Rob claims this version of his pal is “not the man he knows”, claiming the former Fat Friends star “gets a lot of flak”. Lifting the lid on their friendship, he said: “The James Corden I know is not the person I sometimes see people talking about. He gets a lot of flak.”

The comedian continued: “I love him so much. I had never heard of him when we met on a show in 2002, but I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I have to cheer myself up, this kid is really good,'” the Times reported.

In 2022, Keith McNally, owner of Balthazar restaurant, described James as “a little jerk of a man” for allegedly insulting the New York restaurant’s wait staff on two occasions.

James was accused of “screaming like a maniac” at Balthazar staff over his wife’s undercooked meal. However, the Gavin and Stacey creator has brushed off the incident, saying it happens all the time in establishments around the world.

Speaking to a New York Times reporter, he said: “I didn’t do anything wrong, on any level. So why would I cancel this interview? I was there. I get it. I feel so zen about the whole thing. Because I think it’s so stupid.” He continued to complain: “I just think it’s unworthy of all of us. It’s unworthy of you. It’s certainly unworthy of your publication.”
