SPRING, Texas — A 23-year-old Houston man was arrested after allegedly fleeing on foot during a traffic stop, leaving a small child in his vehicle, authorities said.

On July 2, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., a deputy with Constable Ryan Gable’s Criminal Interceptor Unit observed a dark-colored four-door Chevrolet vehicle committing a traffic violation on Sawdust Road near IH-45 in Spring. After activating its emergency lights and siren, the vehicle fled the scene, prompting a pursuit, according to a department news release.

The vehicle eventually stopped near Grogan’s Mill Road and Sawdust Road, where the driver, identified as Marcus L. James, fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, James was taken into custody. During the investigation, officers discovered that James had left a small child in the vehicle.

James was charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, abandoning or endangering a child by criminal negligence, unlawful carrying of a weapon and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. The child was released to family members and the vehicle was towed from the scene. James was transported to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office jail.
