Fundraiser launched following terrible Telford house fire

Fundraiser launched following terrible Telford house fire

The fire, which happened in Hayward Avenue, Donnington, last weekend, gutted the property and a man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

A fundraising campaign has now been launched to try to raise money for the woman who lived there, Debbie Fletcher.

The consequences of the fire

The GoFundMe page was set up by Katie Hughes, who described Ms Fletcher as “a lovely lady who I have known for over ten years”.

“For most of the time I’ve known her, she’s been caring for her elderly mother who was battling cancer,” Katie said. “After a long and painful battle, Debbie finally lost her mother a few weeks ago.

“On July 1st she buried her mother-in-law, but just 48 hours before she was to face that sad day, absolute tragedy struck Deb and her family.

The consequences of the fire

“She woke up in the night to find her entire house on fire and narrowly escaped with her husband.

“At 60, Deb and her husband have absolutely nowhere to go.

“The top floor of their house was destroyed and nothing can be salvaged. They have no clothes, no personal belongings other than those with which they fled.

“I’m trying to raise money so this wonderful lady can go and buy herself some short-term things to get by in the coming weeks.

“Please share, help and donate whatever you can.”

Gheorghe Milac, aged 39 and of Bishopdale, Brookside, Telford, pleaded no contest at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court earlier this week to a charge of arson with intent to endanger life and an alternative, less serious charge of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

He will appear again at Shrewsbury Crown Court later this month on July 29. Milac was granted bail on condition that he does not go to Hayward Avenue or interfere with the six people affected by the incident.
