Joe Biden Seriously Considering Withdrawing From Race, NYT Reports

US President Joe Biden is “seriously considering withdrawing” from the presidential race, according to a report by The New York Times.

The publication reported Wednesday that Biden told a key ally that he was aware he might not be able to salvage his candidacy if he failed to convince the public he was ready for the job in the coming days.

The decision follows the president’s disastrous performance in last week’s first presidential debate against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

According to the New York Times, Biden’s ally stressed that Biden was still “deeply engaged in the fight for reelection.” The president, however, reportedly acknowledged that his upcoming appearances should go smoothly.

If true, the conversation would be the first sign to the public that the president is wondering whether he can recover from his poor performance in the Atlanta debate on Thursday.

There have been many concerns about his viability as a candidate and his ability to serve as president for another four years.

Additionally, the NYT said a senior Biden adviser, speaking on condition of anonymity, told them the president was “well aware of the political challenge he faces.”
