A person was arrested Saturday for allegedly trying to stop the use of a controversial herbicide in Lake George. The herbicide is designed to kill the invasive water milfoil species.

Helena Rice was on a personal watercraft in Sheep Meadow Bay and attempted to interfere with ProcellaCOR enforcement, Lake George Park Commission Executive Director Dave Wick confirmed to NewsChannel 13.

Rice was arrested on numerous boating law violations, as well as obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and reckless driving. She was arraigned in Warren County Centralized Court and released pending a later court date.

There were no restrictions on water consumption, swimming or fishing in the water during the period the law was in effect.

The park commission said the application went as planned. Water test results will be available early next week, and Wick had previously said she expected the herbicide to be undetectable in less than three days.

Wick had previously said native plants would begin to repopulate once the invasive plants are gone, in about six weeks.

Opponents of the pesticide unsuccessfully sued to block its implementation.
