Hurricane Beryl’s impact on Caribbean tourism: flight and cruise cancellations

Santo Domingo.- Hurricane Beryl has had a significant impact on the Caribbean tourism industry, leading to numerous flight and cruise cancellations. At Las Americas Airport (AILA), eight flights were canceled, according to Aerodom.

Luis José López, Aerodom’s corporate communications director, listed the affected flights:

  1. AA 987 – From Miami to Santo Domingo
  2. AA 987 – From Santo Domingo to Miami
  3. AA 1154 – From Miami to Santo Domingo
  4. AA 1154 – From Santo Domingo to Miami
  5. DM 1091 – From Santo Domingo to Kingston
  6. DM 1092 – From Kingston to Santo Domingo
  7. AV 250 – From Bogota to Santo Domingo
  8. AV 251 – From Santo Domingo to Bogota

These cancellations affect flights operated by American Airlines, Arajet and Avianca. López pointed out that Jamaica has also closed its airport operations, which has led to additional flight cancellations, as reported by Diario Libre.

Airlines have decided to rearrange their flight schedules as a precautionary measure due to the adverse weather conditions caused by Hurricane Beryl. The rescheduling of flights is expected to take place on Wednesday, depending on weather conditions.

In addition to flight disruptions, several cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Carnival, have adjusted their Caribbean itineraries in response to Hurricane Beryl. These adjustments are focused on the safety of passengers and crew.

Royal Caribbean has adjusted the itineraries of its Icon of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas and Harmony ships to ensure the comfort and safety of guests and crew. Norwegian Cruise Line has adjusted the itineraries of its Jade, Takeaway and Norwegian Breakaway ships, the latter of which set sail for a weeklong voyage from Miami last Sunday.
