Which Dorian Finney-Smith contender can offer the Brooklyn Nets the best return?

Of the players likely to be next to leave Brooklyn, Dorian Finney-Smith’s name has generated the most buzz. The Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers have both been linked to the 31-year-old forward, but who can offer the most attractive package?

It’s been a busy offseason for Philadelphia, drafting Jared McCain, signing Paul George and Andre Drummond while re-signing Kelly Oubre Jr. and extending Tyrese Maxey. A masterful job by Elton Brand and Daryl Morey. In search of one last piece, Finney-Smith has exactly the qualities and attributes a serious contender like Philly needs. Despite that perfect fit, the 76ers likely wouldn’t be able to meet Brooklyn’s asking price due to a lack of young, replaceable talent. The Nets would have to deal Finney-Smith for no less than a first-round pick plus a high-upside prospect, the latter of which is something the 76ers don’t currently have on their roster.

On the contrary, the Lakers have plenty of young talent available to trade, and a deal with LA would also ship Finney-Smith out of the conference and not bolster one of Brooklyn’s rivals. While the Lakers’ two 2024 draft picks are certainly not available, pieces like Rui Hachimura or Jalen Hood-Schifino should be easy to acquire. A package built around Hood-Schifino and a 2029 first-round pick would be a dream scenario for Brooklyn, giving a talented young guard the chance to reach his potential while also landing a first-round pick who will surely transfer amid a cloudy post-LeBron James era in LA.

Wings are often highly overvalued on the trade market, and while Finney-Smith isn’t an elite talent, he’s sure to command a decent price if the Nets play their cards right.
