Team India’s scheduled flight cancelled? Aviation watchdog seeks report from Air India

New Delhi:

Aviation regulator DGCA has sought a report from Air India on reports that a plane that was scheduled to operate a scheduled flight was deployed to fly the Indian cricket team from Barbados, officials said.

It has been reported that Air India has deployed the aircraft which was originally scheduled to operate a scheduled flight from Newark to Delhi to Barbados, causing inconvenience to passengers.

In this context, a senior official said on Wednesday that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought a report from Air India.

The T20 World Cup champion Indian cricket team is set to arrive in the national capital on Thursday morning. They are flying in from Barbados’ Grantley Adams International Airport on a chartered flight with special call sign AIC24WC – Air India Champions 24 World Cup.

An Air India official said passengers were not inconvenienced by the deployment of the Boeing 777 aircraft in Barbados.

Most of the passengers who had booked tickets for the Newark-Delhi flight on July 2 had been informed in advance. However, some passengers who could not be informed about the flight cancellation turned up at the airport and were taken by road to New York. These passengers were accommodated on the New York-Delhi flight, the official added.

The cricket team’s departure was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl and the charter flight was arranged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
