“This entitled attitude pisses me off”

Lea Salonga had some harsh words after a disturbing video showing unauthorized fans just outside her dressing room looking for photos went viral. “This entitled attitude is completely foreign to me,” Salonga tweeted in response on Sunday.

The legendary singer/actress, who plays Imelda Marcos in “Here Lies Love,” was filmed in her personal dressing room after production.

In the video, Salonga is seen taking pictures with authorized fans. But two Filipino fans – a man and a woman – lingered outside his door and asked to be photographed as well.

“Who are you? I’m really sorry, I don’t know who you are,” Salonga said.

“We’re just a fan,” replied the male fan, whom Playbill identified as Cristopher Retokelly Carpila. “Please?”

Sneaking backstage without permission, especially into the artists’ dressing rooms or green boxes, is a violation of the theater’s safety and etiquette rules. Fans typically wait outside the stage door to get photos and autographs.

“Unless you are on the guest list, we cannot welcome you back here. So you will have to go to the door (of the stage). I am sorry, because if I allow it now, other people will take advantage of it,” Salonga replied, exasperated.

The friend tried to name producer Giselle “G” Töngi, but Salonga insisted they were not on the list.

“Sa pinto,” repeated in Tagalog, which translates to “at the door.” “If you’re not on the list, we can’t let you in,” she added, which translates to “Because you’re not on the list, we can’t let you in.”

Salonga then asked fans to join her inside the stage door and appeared to concede and take photos with them.

She later expressed her displeasure on Twitter. She also said she spoke with Töngi, who did not know who the fans were.

“Just a little reminder… I have limits. Please don’t cross them. Thank you,” she tweeted on her official account, which has more than 5.5 million followers.

In another thread, a follower commented on the entitlement of Filipino fans.

“This entitlement attitude is completely foreign to me,” Salonga wrote. “The money you pay for a theater or concert ticket doesn’t get you into every show. You’re paying for that artist’s art, and that’s where it ends. I have to say that the people at the stage entrances have been incredibly kind, which only makes us (well, me) excited to say hello and spend time talking to them.”

Representatives for the piece and Salonga did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

However, on Monday, Salonga tweeted that the problem was elevated to the highest ranks of the play’s production team“For my part, I will no longer participate in receptions in these most secret spaces in order to guarantee that security monitors me at all times.”

“It’s a shame that this had to happen,” said the screen legend, best known for starring in “Les Misérables” and voicing Jasmine in “Aladdin” and Fa Mulan in “Mulan.” “People need to remember that even though we are public figures, we need our private spaces and we will fiercely protect those sacred places.”

The incident follows several recent incidents in which singers including Kelsea Ballerini and Harry Styles were injured by objects thrown by fans while they were on stage.

“Here Lies Love” opens Thursday, July 20 at the Broadway Theatre.
