Ellen Degeneres cancels stand-up shows without giving reason

Comedian and former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has canceled four dates of her stand-up tour.

“Unfortunately, the event organizer has had to cancel your event,” a message on Ticketmaster’s website reads, citing shows in Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago as those affected.

It is not yet known why these dates were cancelled, as other performances are still scheduled in these cities. The tour is currently scheduled to run through August 17.

The stand-up tour marks his return to the spotlight two years after the cancellation of the The Ellen DeGeneres Showafter employees accused leaders of fostering a “toxic” work environment, alleging incidents of sexual misconduct, racism and bullying.

DeGeneres, who was shocked by the allegations at the time, recently addressed the show’s cancellation during one of her stand-up performances.

The comedian told the Los Angeles audience that she’s been doing a lot of gardening since the show ended. “What else can I tell you?” she added. “Oh yeah, I got fired from show business. There’s no bad guys in show business.”

“This is the second time I’ve been fired from show business,” she said. “They’re going to end up firing me a third time because I’m mean, old and gay. It’s had a huge impact on my ego and my self-esteem. There are so many extremes in this business, people either love you and idolize you or they hate you, and those people are kind of louder.”

Later, after her stand-up routine, Ellen took questions from the audience and explained the process of getting the show canceled: “That was a whole other thing. I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ It was so hurtful. I couldn’t get my mind off it. I couldn’t do anything to make myself understand that it wasn’t personal,” she continued.

“I was like, ‘This is not how I wanted to end my career, but this is how it ends.’ I hated the way the show ended,” she shared. “I love this show so much and I hated that the last time people saw me was this way.”

Elsewhere in her show, DeGeneres opened up about the scandal’s impact on her marriage. DeGeneres, who has claimed she was unaware of the show’s toxic work environment, apologized shortly after the allegations were made public. “Things happened here that should never have happened,” she told her audience at the time.

A year after his show ended, the comedian claimed that the media coverage surrounding the affair was “misogynistic.”
