Bengaluru prisoner caught hiding mobile phone in rectum | Bangalore News

Officials at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru have seized a mobile phone belonging to a 25-year-old undertrial prisoner who allegedly hid it in his rectum using adhesive tape.

The incident took place on Tuesday, when the prisoner, Raghuveer, returned after a court hearing. After he complained of stomach ache, the jail officials got suspicious and inspected his body with a hand-held metal detector, which went off near his body cavity.

A police officer said: “Raghuveer was immediately taken to the prison infirmary and an X-ray revealed an opaque foreign object on his body.”

Doctors found that Raghuveer had hidden an object measuring 7 cm long and 2 cm wide, wrapped in adhesive tape inside the body cavity. It turned out to be a mobile phone.

A jail official said, “Although new technology jammers are installed inside the jail, there are isolated places where mobile networks are accessible for communication. Some prisoners try to smuggle mobile phones when they go out to attend court hearings or are admitted to hospital. In Raghuveer’s case, he had returned after attending a court hearing.”

Festive offer

The police have registered an FIR under section 42 (mobile phone or any other means of communication with prisoners) of the Karnataka Prisons Act and section 323 (dishonestly or fraudulently taking or concealing property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigations are underway.

In February, a prisoner awaiting trial was arrested with contraband concealed on his body after he went to hospital for treatment.
