Meet Deborah Szekely, a 102-year-old woman who still works at her resort

What do you plan to do at 102? This question may seem absurd to most of us. That’s because the global average Human life expectancy is about 73 years old. But if you ask Deborah Szekely the same question, she will tell you that she will continue to work. That’s because the 102-year-old woman practices the sport at a spa she co-founded in 1940.

No retirement plans

Considered one of the best health spas in North America, Rancho La Puerta in Baja California, Mexico, was founded by Szekely and her late husbandand she has been working there ever since. Even today, at age 102, Szekely works at the complex three days a week and has no plans to retire anytime soon.

She has worked at her hotel complex for 63 years.

Over the years, Szekely has held many different roles within the resort: head chef, general manager and activities director. Today, Rancho La Puerta is run by Szekely’s daughter, Sarah Livia Brightwood, but the 102-year-old is still very involved in the resort’s operations.

Speaking to CNBC recently, Szekely opened up about his practices for a happy life and healthy life.

“When I woke up on the morning of my 100th birthday, I didn’t find anything different, so I kept doing the same thing,” she told CNBC. “It’s not something you do. It’s part of life, it’s something you automatically know you have to do. It’s not an option.”

Secrets to a Happy and Healthy Life

According to her, the three daily practices that have helped her are:

1. Move daily and walk at least one kilometer per day

2. Adopt a pescatarian diet that includes yogurt, bananas, whole grains, fish and baked potatoes.

3. Socialize and always learn
