Dad Goes Viral For Texting Daughter After Seeing Her Breakup

A Texas dad goes viral for his message to his daughter following her unexpected breakup.

In May, Fallon Thompson shared a screenshot of a text her father, Scott Thompson, sent her after their breakup on TikTok, with the video garnering 3.8 million views.

“Hey little girl… here’s your dad’s perspective… I’ve had a lot of relationships… one night stands, flings, friends with benefits, girlfriends, live-in girlfriends, and then I met your mom,” the message read.

“I can say for sure that when I met her, it was instantly different,” he continued. “I can also say that I knew it was different because I had already had those experiences.”

“What you’re going through today is necessary for you to one day discern if a person is really meant for you,” he added. “I can also say that even though I broke up and even though I was cheated on once, it was worth it to get to where I am today.”

The video also featured two more screenshots of Scott’s text to Fallon, including an anecdote about a bull running into a storm.

“When a bull sees a storm, he runs toward it,” Scott wrote, offering Fallon’s wisdom. “So be the bull and lean into the storm, accept the suction and let it fill you,” he added.

Talk to Hello AmericaThe student-athlete said her father, whom she considers her best friend, sent her the message after her unexpected breakup.

“After I read the first sentence, I was like, ‘Oh, this is something my heart needed,’” Fallon, 20, told the outlet. “I think at that point, he knew I just needed some encouraging words.”

“It was just one of those messages that was so sweet that you want to cry,” she added. “So I cried a little bit and I was like, ‘Wow, no matter where my relationships take me in life, I know I’ll always have my dad and my family.’ That’s the most important thing to me.”

“It really made my heart skip a beat,” she continued.

Reflecting on what prompted him to send the message, Scott told the outlet that he wanted to find a way to help his daughter after seeing how upset she was.

“I knew it was really weighing on her and we came home and you know, as a dad, you just want to try to do something to help them through their pain or at least do what you can to help them see it more clearly,” he said.

He added that while it had been fun to see the comments and positive feedback on the video, that was never his intention.

“I was just trying to impart some wisdom to my daughter and give her some perspective,” he said. “It’s really cool that it’s helped other people and to me, that’s the best part about it.”
