Hysteria as dog gives owner ‘silent treatment’ after groomer appointment

A video showing a dog shushing his owner after he apparently disapproved of his new haircut has gone viral online.

The dog’s owner, @leahmstockton, shared footage on TikTok that garnered 285,500 likes and 2 million views, in which Benny the goldendoodle appeared to refuse to make eye contact with her.

“POV: Your dog lectures you all day after going to the groomer,” the owner wrote in the caption.

The shaved goldendoodle, Benny, could be seen looking out the car window as he looked away from his owner after the cut.

“You’re so handsome. You’re really handsome. Benny, can you look at your mom? He’s ignoring me because I took him to the groomer,” the owner said in the video.

Despite his tireless attempts to get his attention, Benny still refused to look at his owner.

“He does that every time. Benny. Benny, you’re so handsome. Benny, can I have a kiss? Benny, can mommy have a kiss? Benny, I love you. You’re a good boy,” she said.

The dog finally cracked, but only for a moment. He glanced briefly at his mistress when she asked, “Do you want to go get a treat?”

The owner said his dog needed a haircut because it was hot and it would relieve his body heat.

Goldendoodles are a mixed breed between golden retrievers and poodles.

Although their coats vary from dog to dog, with some being curly/woolly and others being straight/wavy, according to Tuft, an online grooming planner provider in the UK

According to the website, Goldendoodles should be groomed every six weeks as they require regular brushing and detangling.

TikTok users considered Benny’s challenge to be hysterical.

“He’s just like, ‘Take me home. I can’t even do it with you,'” Julie said. “Benny’s not taking calls right now,” Kallie joked.

“Benny feels cheated,” Aelissa Rodriquez said. “He told me to get me a treat and I’ll think about it,” Shirley Sanchez said.

“Benny is looking for his new owners in this parking lot,” one user said.

Others criticized the owner’s decision to clip his dog because of the heat.

“It’s not a good idea to shave their fur as they use it to cool down,” one user advised.

Surprisingly, fur coats serve to keep dogs from getting too hot, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

“While you and I hate wearing layers of clothing in 100-degree weather, your pets’ fur coats actually provide relief from the heat,” the website article states.
