More Than Ready’s Emery on the final stretch of his path to victory

More Than Ready’s Emery on the final stretch of his path to victory

Emery | Sarah Andrew

Stonestreet Stables Emery (f, 3, More Than Ready–Athena, by Street Sense) inspired rhythm Mystic Lake (Mo Town) in the final strides to earn her first graded victory in the GIII Victory Ride Stakes at Aqueduct on Thursday. The 3-5 favorite found herself off the pace as Mystic Lake was pressed by Halina’s strong point (Mitole) in fractions of :21.72 and :44.38. Emery looked threatening three lengths from the finish line but Mystic Lake pulled away and looked to have won in the final stretch but the favourite found another advantage late in the race to take a half-length lead and finish the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.44.

Emery, a first-time winner at Saratoga last August, finished fourth to champion Just FYI (Justify) in the GI Frizette Stakes. She resurfaced with a 5 1/4-length optional claiming victory at Keeneland on April 19 and was coming off a 3 1/2-length victory in the 5-mile Leslie’s Lady Stakes at Churchill Downs on June 9.

Lifetime record: 5-4-0-0. O-Stonestreet Stables. B-Mary Grum (Ky). T-Brad Cox.
