Fresno Fairgrounds to Host Live Horse Race

The Big Fresno Fair will feature 14 days of live horse racing for the first time, double the number of race dates held in 2023. The 2024 Fresno race dates will begin in September ahead of the start of the annual fair. This historic split in race days comes after the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) approved the California Authority of Racing Fairs’ (CARF) plans to create year-round racing in Northern California under the new Golden State Racing organization. This move is designed to keep live horse racing in Northern California after Golden Gate Fields closes on June 9, 2024.

“This is a new era for horse racing in Northern California and we know this new edition of Fresno will draw a large crowd,” said Larry Swartzlander, CARF Executive Director and Managing Director of the new Golden State Racing. “Fresno is known for its safe track and the incredible energy of the crowd. Horse owners, trainers and jockeys are thrilled to have these additional race dates in Fresno and we can expect a strong field of horses and incredible racing.”

The 2024 Big Fresno Fair race dates are as follows: September Race Dates (Pre-Fair): Friday, September 13 through Sunday, September 15; Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22; Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29. October Race Dates (During the Fair): Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6; Friday, October 11 through Monday, October 14.

The Big Fresno Fair, founded in 1884, is the fifth largest state fair in California and the 21st largest agricultural association in the district.
