Ronald Araujo’s future at FC Barcelona has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with the defender’s contract expiring in 2026.

Barca have sent a renewal proposal to the centre-back but have not yet received a response, fuelling the rumours, especially as Manchester United are keen to sign the 25-year-old.

Barcelona consider Araujo untransferable

Despite all the speculation and interest in Araujo, Barcelona are not considering a sale and consider the Uruguayan centre-back as “non-transferable”, reports World of sport.

Araujo has been approached by several clubs to tempt him, knowing that he has two years left on his contract, has had doubts about his continuity and has not yet responded to the renewal offer made to his agents.

Faced with this situation, Barça’s response is firm: Araujo is a very important player and one of the captains, he still has two years left on his contract and the new coach Hansi Flick is counting on him.

A sale will only be considered for “XXL” offers

The report adds that the only scenario in which a sale would be considered would be if Araujo himself asked to leave and even then if he was able to present “XXL” offers.

Barcelona view the recent transfers of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea as benchmarks, with the two midfielders signed for €133 million and €121 million respectively.

For the Catalans, Araujo’s value this summer is higher than that of the two players mentioned above. In addition, he is protected by a release clause worth one billion euros.

Therefore, a sale will only be considered if a significant offer of more than 100 million euros arrives.

Manchester United have expressed interest in the 25-year-old, as previously mentioned, while Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been linked.

Araujo, for his part, is currently focused on the Copa America. Any decision regarding his future will only be made after his return.
