‘He’s not the best teammate’: Trae Young’s locker room issues and worrying valuation could spell disaster, Kendrick Perkins warns

The Atlanta Hawks’ trade of Dejounte Murray and Trae Young was one of the most anticipated trades in the NBA. The dynamic between the two failed to impact the team, which went 60-69 with the two on the court together. Now that Murray has left for the New Orleans Pelicans, speculation about a Young trade has subsided. But if the plans are still in place, Kendrick Perkins has a compelling reason to make the three-time All-Star his own.

While discussing free agency on Road Trippin’, Kendrick Perkins and Richard Jefferson discussed the trade rumors that have been swirling around Trae. The former Celtics star opened up about the shocking news he’s heard about Young. Despite the point guard leading the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, Perk revealed that he’s heard, “Guys don’t like being around Trae Young in the locker room. They say he’s not the best teammate..”

Richard Jefferson gives his opinion on this subject, stating that he has heard from credible sources that Young has absolutely no value on the trading market.I haven’t heard anything about Perk being a teammate, but I’ve heard from multiple credible sources within the league that they are aware of it and there is no trade value. for Traeand it’s not that it has no value,” Jefferson said via The road trip. Under his five-year, $215,159,700 contract with the Hawks, Young is set to make $43 million. And all things considered, teams would be skeptical of that amount.

Young averaged 25.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 10.8 assists last season, but his defense has long been a concern. Jefferson points out that Trae Young needs to improve his defensive game, his image and his leadership, and then he could go somewhere. Channing Frye gives him an even bigger challenge, saying: “If you want a championship team and your number one is a little guy, in this day and age, he’s your go-to guy, he’s got to be everything. Plus, he can’t just be a shooter; he’s got to be, he’s got to have energy on defense..”

The key to being recognized as a valuable player, according to the panel, is being a fluid teammate, and Trae Young has often been criticized for not living up to that role. Still, not all hope is doomed for the point guard.

Trae Young Trade Speculation

Trae Young was initially linked to the Los Angeles Lakers in trade rumors and was expected to be a good fit alongside Anthony Davis if LeBron were to leave or retire. But there was no follow-up after he switched agencies from Klutch Sports to CAA. Another team that had Young on their potential trade list was the Utah Jazz.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Young was involved in talks between the Hawks and the Utah Jazz alongside Lauri Markkanen. The Jazz, as Yahoo Sports reported, were considering a trade for Bridges, had discussions with Atlanta about Dejounte Murray and Trae Young, sources said, and were working to build a group around Markkanen. Fischer made his report.

With Murray gone, the Hawks could look to keep the point guard for themselves. Additionally, while he lacks defense, Young has had a good run offensively. He is known for making good shots, averaging 43 percent from three-point range and 37.7 percent from three-point range last season. He also became the franchise’s all-time assist leader with 3,867. Additionally, Young will only be 26 years old and the Hawks appear to be looking to build a foundation around him. All that’s left for the point guard is to be patient with the Hawks and build himself into the role expected of him.
