Will Ferrell was ready to demolish Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Gosling but wanted to stay away from tough guy Mark Wahlberg

The Oscars have always had a reputation for favoring drama over the gimmicky jokes of comedic films. Despite this, in a moment that sent the halls reeling with humor at the 79th Academy Awards (2007), comedy giants Will Ferrell and Jack Black delivered a delightful skit that highlighted this phenomenon.

Accompanied by John C. Reilly, they charmed the audience with a musical number that elegantly highlighted the loneliness of comedy stars at the Oscars. In one segment, Ferrell and Black even jovially (and playfully) threatened more serious nominees in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Gosling.

Ferrell, however, did not dare to attack Mark Wahlberg.

In Hollywood, there are always people ready to pick fights. And at the 79th Academy Awards in 2007, two of comedy’s biggest stars, Will Ferrell and Jack Black, joked about threatening to beat up the nominees for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.

With Leo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and even the legendary Peter O’Toole in their sights, they were ready to fight and show them who’s boss. Black said:

Hey, Leo! You think you can date supermodels and win awards? I’ll elbow you in the larynx!

In their hilarious skit, Black and Ferrell teased and taunted some of the A-list celebrities, ready to take them on in a battle of wits and fists. The latter said:

Ryan Gosling… you’re in fashion now. Well, I’m gonna break your hip… right now!

But when they got to the name Mark Wahlberg, they surprisingly backed off. Why, you ask? Because Ted The Hollywood star is no ordinary face. He’s a force to be reckoned with, a tough guy among mere mortals. So when they mentioned Wahlberg, they quickly learned he wasn’t the type to be messed with. In Ferrell’s words:

Mark Wahlberg! Where are you? I’m not going to bother you. You’re pretty tough. Again, I hope we get along. You’re very talented.

As they sang and danced onstage, threatening to take down the competition, Wahlberg sat quietly in the audience, a smirk on his face. And so the opportunity was set for a comedy duo that would take Hollywood by storm. How? Ferrell and Wahlberg, an odd couple if ever there was one, teamed up for Adam McKay’s cop movie The other guys.

The film celebrated their chemistry and their sense of comedy. And thus a new Hollywood powerhouse was born!

Have you ever seen an on-screen duo that just gets along so well, creating comedic gold every time they share a scene? While Will Ferrell is often paired with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell, thanks to the iconic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, it’s his dynamism with Mark Wahlberg that truly sets the screen alight.

The chemistry between Ferrell and Wahlberg is clearly illustrated in Adam McKay The other guys. How did this unexpected but brilliant duo come to be discovered? It was after McKay noticed the natural complicity between these actors during a sketch at the Oscars in 2007.

The 56-year-old director told Little White Lies:

We had dinner at a little Italian restaurant and they both made me laugh. They are very different people, but they made me laugh all night.

Although The other guys Although this film proved to be Wahlberg and Ferrell’s most technically demanding to date, they managed to retain their style. McKay added:

The idea was to play it for real even if there are crazy rhythms, like when we learn Allen’s past, how he became a pimp without knowing he was a pimp.

This 2010 cinematic alchemy not only entertained us with Ferrell and Wahlberg’s remarkable chemistry, but also paved the way for their delightful later reunion in dad’s house And Dad’s house 2.

The other guys is broadcast on Max.
