USWNT boss Emma Hayes pens message of support for Chelsea successor Sonia Bompastor

The USWNT has acquired one of the greatest modern players, Emma Hayes The Englishwoman, despite her exploits in her previous spell in charge, faces an immediate challenge as she prepares for the Paris Olympics later this month. However, part of her heart is still with her former club, Chelsea. It is only a month since she left London, but the manager has taken some time out to support the new coach, Sonia Bompastor.

The club recently expressed their excitement at the start of an exciting new period under the former Olympique Lyonnais manager. Chelsea FC took to their official Instagram account and posted a photo of the manager with a caption that read: “The Sonia Bompastor era officially begins today. 🤝” Hayes replied in return: “Good luck Sonia, we are all with you 💙” revealing her support for her successor, whom she has known for more than a decade.

Chelsea are also set to enter a legendary new era with the arrival of their new coach. Hayes is confident in the person she has chosen to take charge of the team. Having watched the 44-year-old play for Washington Freedom in the 2009-10 season, when the USA manager was part of the coaching staff, Hayes holds Bompastor in high regard. The 44-year-old started his coaching career with great success, leading Lyon to three consecutive league titles.

But more impressively, she has already won the Champions League, both as a player and as a coach, which could be crucial to Chelsea’s European ambitions. However, her new chapter in London is in somewhat uncharted territory. Only two of her former Lyon colleagues, assistants Camille Abily and Thoe Rivrin, will be part of her coaching staff for four years. For his part, Hayes is hoping for a similar period in the United States.
