Wicked will be released in two parts, with the second part of the film scheduled for release on December 25, 2025. In a letter shared on social media, Chu explained why the decision was made to split Wicked in two films.

“As we prepared for this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to combat the story of Wicked “We managed to bring all of this together in one film without doing any real damage to it,” the letter, published in April 2022, reads. “As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, these decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years.”

Chu continued: “So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and not just do one. Wicked movie but TWO!!!! With more space we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told, while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.

Wicked also starring Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle and Peter Dinklage.
