For many years, there was a template for what an NFL quarterback was supposed to look like.

There were a few exceptions that popped up from time to time, but for the most part, the average quarterback was a fairly immobile pocket passer.

That pattern has changed in recent years, with quarterbacks becoming more athletic and many adding a running element to their game.

Michael Vick was one of the first players to have this mindset and approach to the game, and several other quarterbacks have followed in his footsteps, perhaps even evolving their game to surpass what he was capable of.

A current quarterback who is often compared to a player like Vick is Lamar Jackson.

Jackson has received plenty of criticism throughout his career for being a pass-rushing quarterback, but Joy Taylor recently called out her critics in a segment on FS1’s “Speak.”

“I think Lamar Jackson gets unfair criticism because we’ve never seen anyone like him,” Taylor said.

Sure, Jackson may have a similar style of play to Vick, at least on paper, but he’s proven to be an above-average passer when called upon.

He has now won two MVP awards and led the Baltimore Ravens to the AFC Championship this year, despite skeptics who said he couldn’t win in big games.

Taylor is doing his best to defend Jackson going forward, knowing he’s a unique player, making it difficult to compare him to other quarterbacks.
