This year, Shah Rukh Khan’s IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders won the championship for the first time. And while Shah Rukh is known for never interfering in the team’s affairs, especially when it comes to performances, he gave a passionate speech to motivate the players. In a recent podcast with Manjot Kalra, KKR cricketer Ramandeep Singh shared how Shah Rukh Khan created a real Chak De India moment in the dressing room with the team.

He shared that when KKR lost to Punjab Kings, SRK came to the dressing room and gave them a pep talk. “Our entire core group had a meeting. Shah Rukh sir was also there, and it was a defining moment for our team. Shah Rukh sir gave a speech there. He usually doesn’t talk much and isn’t very involved, but his speech that day gave all of us goosebumps. He told us what he expected from us and what we should do. He reminded us where we came from and where we wanted to go. He identifies a lot with a middle-class family because he also comes from one, so he feels our journey is very close to him,” Ramandeep said.

About their victory, he added: “Shah Rukh was very happy, we all expressed that, everyone believed that the core group that had come together for domestic or international cricket was the best. They all believed that we would get results.”

Ramandeep also recalled how Shah Rukh Khan motivated the team after Harshit Rana was banned for the flying kiss controversy. He said, “When Harshit was banned for the flying kiss controversy, Shah Rukh said that now the team will win the championship and the entire team will blow a flying kiss. And we did. When he was banned, everyone’s mood was spoiled, this time sir said that we will win and celebrate, so don’t lose hope.”

This year, in the IPL, Shah Rukh Khan was seen cheering for his team on many occasions. In fact, even after a health scare and hospitalization in Ahmedabad, the actor continued to support his team right after his release.

In an appearance on cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel, Gautam Gambhir says SRK is the ‘best owner’ he has ever worked with“In the seven years I was captain, we didn’t talk about cricket for 70 seconds. He never asked me a single question about cricket in those seven years. Can you imagine?” he said.
