Cynthia Nixon and Marcia Cross join Mark Ruffalo on Biden’s message

Many celebrities have supported actor Mark Ruffalo who criticized President Joe Biden’s Gaza policy.

Ruffalo had shared a HuffPost article that included a joint statement from 12 former U.S. government officials blasting the president for his policies on the Hamas-Israel conflict.

The officials, who had already resigned from their posts over the administration’s policies in the Middle East since the fighting began on October 7, say the policy is “a failure and a threat to U.S. national security” that “dehumanizes both Palestinians and Jews.”

Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza after the Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel in October 2023. Much of Gaza has since been razed by Israeli forces, and many of its 2.3 million residents have been displaced.

According to the Associated Press, citing Gaza health officials, more than 38,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel’s invasion of Gaza. Israeli officials say about 1,200 people were killed in the Hamas attack, in which about 250 people were taken hostage.

Ruffalo took to X, formerly Twitter, to share his thoughts on the joint statement.

“From the inside, what we all say from the outside is that what Israel is doing to the Palestinians is illegal and immoral, and the Biden administration has approved the worst of it,” the actor wrote in his caption.

“There is no end in sight – untold suffering is unfolding and disaster is befalling Americans, Israelis and Palestinians. The resigning official’s statement speaks volumes on this issue.”

THE Pontoon The actor was supported by other celebrities including Sex and the City is Cynthia Nixon who republished it and Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross also shared it, but with the caption “YES”.

The joint statement includes the signatures of four State Department officials, three from the military, one from the U.S. Agency for International Development and four from Biden’s political staff, according to the outlet.

“Each of us took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and as our nation celebrates its Independence Day, each of us remembers that we resigned from government not to end that oath but to continue to uphold it; not to end our commitment to service, but to extend it,” the statement read.

“This failed policy has failed to achieve its stated goals: it has failed to improve the security of Israelis, it has emboldened extremists, and it has had devastating effects on the Palestinian people, creating a vicious cycle of poverty and despair, with all the implications that entails, for generations to come. As a group of Americans dedicated to serving our country, we insist that there is another way.”

Newsweek contacted the White House press office by email for comment.

Ruffalo has long been vocal about the Gaza conflict, calling for a ceasefire and defending Palestinians, including wearing a “Ceasefire Now” button at this year’s Oscars, where he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Poor things.
