Mercedes-Maybach Creates Yacht-Inspired S-Class for Its Anniversary

Mercedes-Maybach has once again created a unique and elegant car: the yacht-inspired SS 680 Class.

This rare and unique model celebrates the 150th anniversary of luxury yacht broker Robbe & Berking.

This ultra-rare vehicle was inspired by the legendary SPHINX 12mR yacht.

The yacht that inspired it all

The SPHINX, aka the “midnight blue beauty”, was the first classic wooden yacht to be restored by the shipyard.

In fact, the restoration of the racing yacht in 2008 is precisely what led to the creation of the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard.

The ultra-luxurious sedan was inspired by the shipyard’s first historic 12mR boat.

The classic SPHINX was originally built in 1939.

It was 21.48 m (70.47 ft) long.

Just as boats inspire cars, it works the other way around, too: North America’s first Lamborghini 63 speedboat recently took to the water.

The Mercedes-Maybach SS-Class 680

Just like the yacht that inspired it, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 anniversary vehicle features a stunning two-tone finish.

The immaculate paint job consists of a nautical shade of metallic blue on the upper portion and a glossy Patagonia Red on the lower portion of the body.

Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, made a statement.

“Like the SPHINX yacht, our exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class anniversary vehicle embodies craftsmanship, elegance and attention to detail,” he began.

“We congratulate Robbe & Berking on their anniversary and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration.”

Step inside and the interior of the unique Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedan is finished in Maybach’s exclusive nappa leather.

The crystal white with diamond quilting of the seats, headliner, door centre panels and storage compartment under the central screen reflect the elegance of life aboard a superyacht.

“This magnificent anniversary vehicle is another sign of the long-standing friendship between Maybach and Robbe & Berking,” said Oliver Berking, Managing Director of Robbe & Berking GmbH.

“We are also united by common passions: craftsmanship, the best materials and timeless lines, on the road, on the water and at the table.”

The Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is already considered a superyacht for the road.

In other news from the brand, this 19-foot Mercedes-Maybach luxury convertible concept has been brought to life by a Russian garage.
