When it comes to C2 Corvettes, the 64s are sometimes overlooked by collectors who often migrate to the 63 split-windows or 67 big blocks.

But this tastefully executed 1964 restoration offered on Bring a Trailer needs no apologies. With four days left in the auction, the high bid of $450,000 is miles away from its final destination.

After all, it underwent a complete, no-expense-spared, thorough restoration by Artisans Rods and Classics in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 2012 to 2015, which included installing an LS2 V8 engine from a 2008 Corvette from Dino’s Corvette Salvage and modifying it with a FAST intake manifold, Wilson Manifolds throttle body, and an MSD Atomic EFI system.

Other mechanical upgrades include a Be Cool radiator, dual electric cooling fans, Hooker exhaust manifolds, a Billet Specialties accessory drive system, four-wheel disc brakes, VBP suspension, Steeroids rack-and-pinion steering, a Tremec five-speed manual transmission and a hydraulic clutch package.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the work that’s been done on this car, and it’s all been documented for future owners in an impressive book of professional photos.

Externally, the fiberglass body was given a new Ermine white paint job and reproduction cast aluminum wheels were fitted.

The spectacular look of this car continues inside as well, with beautiful white seats nicely accented by red carpet and dashboard and white door panels accented by red carpet strips on the lower edge. Dakota digital gauges were installed, along with a Vintage Car Audio sound system and an upgraded Vintage Air system in place of the stock air conditioning.

Originally delivered to Jack Coyle Chevrolet of San Bernardino, California, the car was NCRS-verified in 2012 and comes with a reproduction window sticker indicating a final MSRP of just under $6,000 after nearly $1,800 in options were added to the $4,252 base price.

But today, after years of extensive restoration, this Sting Ray is better than new in many ways. As the seller points out in his detailed description, “This car is the ideal combination of a mid-year Corvette with a completely stock appearance, but with the reliability, performance and comfort of a modern car. Built to the highest standards, this Corvette is ready to drive and show.”
