Shocked former SNP MP has ‘nothing’ to say after Ayrshire defeat

Deposed SNP MP Patricia Gibson has taken the blow hard after Thursday’s decisive election defeat to Labour.

After three successive victories in North Ayrshire and Arran, she found herself facing an unstoppable Labour juggernaut on a very poor night for her party, with Irene Campbell set to take her place in the House of Commons.

Speaking as she exited the stage left, Patricia said: “I have nothing in particular to say.

“Tomorrow is another day. The people have spoken.”

Conservative candidate and North Coast councillor Todd Ferguson will now seek to work with the newly elected MP.

He said: “We ran a good, positive local campaign and did our best. I want to thank all my colleagues, my family, my friends and everyone who voted for me.

“It wasn’t our night and it doesn’t seem to have been our night across the UK.

“This was a strong and positive message for the Union and I hope that the Labour Party will stay true to its values to keep the United Kingdom together and start moving this country in the right direction.
