Women’s soccer team announces 2024 schedule

DAYTON – The Wright State women’s soccer program, led by head coach Travis Sobersunveiled its 2024 schedule Wednesday afternoon. The schedule features eight home games at Alumni Field this fall.

The Raiders will prepare with two exhibition games before the regular season begins, first at Toledo (Aug. 3) and then at Miami (OH) (Aug. 8). Wright State will open the regular season with a road game against Illinois (Aug. 15) and will host its home opener on Aug. 22 against Mercyhurst.

After their home opener on Thursday, the Raiders will be on the road for three games, returning to host five of their seven September games at Alumni Field, first against Morehead State on Sept. 5 and Valparaiso on Sept. 8. The Raiders will stay close to home for their second September road game, against in-state opponent Dayton (Sept. 12). Wright State finishes the month with three Horizon League games, first against Green Bay (Sept. 19), then Milwaukee (Sept. 22) and finally against Cleveland State (Sept. 29).

October will feature just two home games, against Horizon League opponents IU Indianapolis and Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct. 17 and 20, respectively. The Raiders will open the month with three road games and finish the regular season on the road Oct. 26 and 30 against Robert Morris and Northern Kentucky.

The Horizon League Championship will begin on November 3 with the 3rd and 4th seeded teams. The tournament will continue on November 7th and 9th at the 1st seeded team’s home venue.

Last fall, Wright State went 6-7-5 overall and advanced to the Horizon League quarterfinals after going 4-3-3 in Horizon League play. Two Raiders earned All-League honors, including Lauren Borchert earned second-team All-League honors and Kaitlyn Eyink named to the All-Freshman team.

Toledo (August 3, Toledo, OH; exhibition)

– Toledo finished 7-9-2 last season, ranking ninth in the MAC with a 4-6-1 conference record. This will be the ninth time the two teams have met, as the Raiders are 3-4-1 in the regular season against Toledo. Their last regular-season meeting was in 2019, when the Rockets won 4-1.

Miami (August 8, Oxford, OH; exhibition)

– Miami (OH) finished 8-10-1 last season, finishing eighth after finishing 5-6 in the MAC. This will be the 12th This is the first time the two teams have met, as Wright State is 5-6-0 in the regular season against the RedHawks. Illinois (August 15, Champaign, IL; season opener)

Mercyhurst (August 22, Alumni Field; home opener)

– Mercyhurst went 16-4-1 overall last season, going 14-1-1 in the PSAC. After falling short in the PSAC Tournament semifinals, the Lakers finished the 2023 season with a 0-1 loss to Gannon University in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship. This will be the first time the two have met.

Akron (August 25, Akron, OH)

– Akron finished 3-14-1 last season, going 1-9-1 in the MAC. This will be the fourth time the two teams have met, as the Raiders are 2-1-0 in the series against the Zips. The two teams last met in September 2023, where the Raiders won 2-1.

Indiana (August 29, Bloomington, IL)

– Indiana finished last season with a 12-4-4 overall record, going 6-2-2 in the Big 10. The Hoosiers finished the 2023 season after being eliminated by Saint Louis in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This will be the fourth meeting between Wright State and Indiana, with Indiana holding a 3-0-0 record against the Raiders. Their previous meetings were in 2009 and 1998.

Southern Indiana (September 1, Evansville, IN)

– Southern Indiana finished the 2023 season with a 4-8-7 overall record, going 3-2-4 in the OVC. Their season ended after a loss to Little Rock in the OVC Tournament quarterfinals. This will be the second time Wright State has met the Eagles, after the Raiders beat USI 2-1 last season.

Morehead State (Sept. 5, Alumni Field)

– Morehead State finished 9-6-5 last season, going 6-1-2 in the OVC. After winning the OVC tournament title, the Eagles’ season ended with a loss to top-seeded Florida State in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Valparaiso (September 8, Alumni Field)

The Panthers won the 2023 HL regular season title, earning the tournament title after defeating Northern Kentucky. Milwaukee’s season ended after losing to Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
