Liz Truss, a lettuce humiliated after shocking election defeat

Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss was expelled from the House of Commons on Friday in a brutal response to her failed premiership. It was one of the biggest shocks in a night of utter disarray for the Conservative Party; the worst election in nearly 200 years for the party, founded in 1834. Truss, who was prime minister for a record 49 days, had a huge majority to defend in her home constituency of south-west Norfolk, but voters dealt her an unexpected blow on a dismal night for the world’s most successful political party, handing the reins to Labour, which won the seat by a majority of 630 votes. Truss became a global social media meme during her ill-fated tenure, when a British newspaper hosted a live stream to see if she would survive the shelf life of a head of lettuce. In the end, the head of lettuce won. Rather than lick her wounds after being forced out of Number 10 by her own party, Truss went on a world tour claiming she was forced out by the Deep State while trying to sell her book, Ten Years to Save the West: Lessons from the Only Conservative Left.
