Nadine Dorries was the gift that was inadvertently given last night

As expected, the Tories did not have a good night. And even less so former Culture Minister Nadine Dorries, who pooped in her bed live on air Channel 4For those who spent the night waiting for the general election, it was pure comedy gold.

Not once, not twice, too many times to count, Boris Johnson’s fan blundered on air. Fact-checkers are crying.

Fortunately, Channel 4 Emily Maitlis and Krishnan Guru-Murphy were on the case.

Nadine Dorries in the glory of the night of election gaffes

Maitlis and Guru-Murphy co-presenter and former New Labour spokesman (turned alleged war criminal) Alastair Campbell hosted the show. Channel 4 News Results of the special elections.

All three MPs were questioned throughout the evening, including Harriet Harman and Kwasi Kwarteng. However, the highlights of the evening were undoubtedly Nadine Dorries’ repeated gaffes.

In one scene, Dorries claimed that the reason for the Conservatives’ election defeat by the Reformists was that Sunak had abandoned a number of party policies. Maitlis corrected her on a glaring error regarding Sunak and the Windsor Framework. In particular, contrary to what she had said about his abandonment, it was in fact his policy:

Then, in another part of Nadine Dorries’ election gaffe, she challenged Campbell on Tony Blair’s resignation honours list. Except he didn’t have one:

And on this point, people commented on the absolute gift that Dorries’ interviewee Harriet Harman represented by being there in the studio with him. The long-serving Labour MP made her way into Keir Starmer’s catalogue of honours. Needless to say, Dorries didn’t make it:

Blushing and making mistakes about Boris Johnson

Playing on the tension between Campbell and Nadine Dorries, Maitlis threw down the challenge. Who would get a message from their former Prime Minister friends first? After that, a clearly troubled Dorries admitted to the panel that he had sent her a message. Unfortunately, the British public can only speculate as to what that message said, as a coy Dorries remained tight-lipped about it:

The giddy schoolgirl vibe is palpable, with Campbell telling the Boris idoliser to “move on”:

As expected, Dorries was NOT happy, but the people on X were thrilled to hear Campbell say what everyone was thinking:

And it only got better from there. If the Conservative panellists thought the questions about Boris Johnson were tough, Guru-Murphy reminded them that they hadn’t even gotten to Liz Truss:

Hit the road, you morons, and don’t come back.

Back to Boris (because of course), and Maitlis this time asked Nadine Dorries if the former Prime Minister might return to the fold. Some deliciously delicious scenes followed:

Dorries responded that his letters to Johnson contained only an in-depth analysis of the election results (which they certainly did).

The cherry on the cake came when – after too many questions about Boris – Dorries and Kwarteng both left the studio:

As the Tories quickly withdrew from parliament in this election, good riddance, we would say!
