Lily James Stars in Film Inspired by Bumble Founder Whitney Wolfe Herd

Lily James will star in a new film inspired by Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd.

The 34-year-old actress will star in and produce the untitled new film which is currently in pre-production ahead of filming which is set to begin later this year.

Wolfe Herd left Tinder in 2014 due to tensions with other executives at the dating app and founded competitor Bumble the same year.

The company went public in 2021, making Wolfe Herd one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31.

She stepped down as CEO last year, but left behind a hugely successful app with many divisions that continue to thrive.

Plot details are somewhat vague as the film is solely inspired by Whitney’s life and it is unclear how closely it will compare to her real-life story.

Casting for other roles has begun and the film is expected to be released in 2025.

Rachel Lee Goldenberg is directing the film from a screenplay she wrote with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele.

Lily will produce the film alongside Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay and it will be one of her first major projects as a producer, as she looks to expand her involvement behind the camera.

The “Cinderella” star has previously expressed her fears of being typecast in romantic roles and explained that she wanted to show all her different sides as a performer.

She said: “It stresses me out sometimes that I get offered so many roles that fit that description, because I have so much more to offer than being pigeonholed into that ‘romantic girl’ box – I have so many facets to my personality.

“I can get upset easily if something bothers me… I want to be able to express my many different facets in all kinds of characters.”
