Suspect crashes into police car after evading traffic stop – KBSI Fox 23 Cape Girardeau News

NASHVILLE, IL (KBSI) – Deputies observed a Ford Explorer speeding in Nashville, IL on July 5 around 10:30 p.m.

The car continued south, reaching speeds of 100 mph as it entered Pinckneyville, IL. As it entered the city, the driver struck the officers’ stop sticks, successfully deflating one of the tires. The driver then swerved to the right, striking a deputy’s patrol car, sending both vehicles off the road. The driver attempted to flee on foot and was unsuccessful in jumping a nearby fence where he was apprehended and taken into custody.

The suspect has been identified as Michael Oliver of Belleville and has been wanted on multiple arrest warrants in St. Clair County, Illinois, for nearly five years. Charges against him include three counts of kidnapping, aggravated domestic violence and unlawful confinement.

Belleville is accused of the following facts:

  • Aggravated escape and fleeing
  • Driving with a revoked license
  • Speeding (over 35 mph)
  • Incorrect passage
  • Driving an uninsured vehicle
  • Driving a vehicle with expired registration
  • Illegal possession of license plates
  • Illegal display of unauthorized vehicle registration plates.
