Andy was due to play in the mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu, but Emma pulled out on Saturday due to a “stiff” wrist. With Andy and his brother, Jamie, knocked out of their doubles match on Thursday and with his retirement imminent, it means Andy’s Wimbledon career is over.

At the end of his match, the Scottish tennis ace was treated to an incredibly moving tribute, which included a montage of highlights from his career. Andy was cheered on by his family and two of his daughters, and everyone was visibly emotional.

Andy was also interviewed by Sue Barker, who came out of retirement for the occasion. During their conversation, Andy was asked what his father might have in store for his retirement, prompting the tennis legend to tease: “Well, they’ve been waking my wife and me up at 5 a.m. for eight years, so they’ll keep doing it.

“They asked me to carry them on my back the day after my back surgery. They were great, it’s something I’m looking forward to, spending more time at home.”

The Princess usually attends Wimbledon, but was unable to do so this year due to her cancer treatment. The Princess is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) and traditionally presents trophies to the Wimbledon champion.

Kate’s love of tennis dates back to her childhood and she has only missed Wimbledon once – in 2013 while pregnant with Prince George. The royal told Sue Barker in a 2017 BBC documentary: “I watched Wimbledon, it was a huge part of my childhood. It’s a huge part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires young people, it inspired me when I was younger to get involved in the game. That hasn’t changed either, I think that’s what’s so wonderful about it.”

Although Kate was unable to attend Wimbledon this year, her parents Michael and Carole were in attendance on day four of the tournament. Carole wore a stunning floral summer dress which she paired with a chic white jacket with black buttons. Michael, meanwhile, looked dapper in a blue shirt, yellow tie and navy jacket.
