Nag Ashwin reveals these two films inspired Kalki 2898 AD amid comparisons with Iron Man, Harry Potter, Dune

Since its release Kalki Announcement 2898 has been compared to a number of Hollywood films, including Dune, Iron Man and more. In a conversation with Zoomdirector Nag Ashwin He finally revealed which films really influenced him.

In an exclusive conversation with ZoomThe director spoke about the films that inspired him during the ideation process of Kalki 2898 AD. “We grew up watching wonder movies. I would say that guardians of the galaxy was more of an influence than Iron Man. Certainly Star Wars “It’s a huge influence, I love Star Wars so it’s subconsciously part of my aesthetic,” he revealed.

When asked if he was inspired by Harry Potter“Our references were these old Tibetan monks who are supposed to be 120-130 years old,” the director said, adding, “Sir (Kamal Haasan) would always mention the picture of Dorian Gray, whenever we had a discussion. That was sir’s inspiration. We didn’t have many cinematic references for that old look.”

Opening with the similarities between the electromagnetic field diffusion scene in Kalki 2898 AD with the death eaters scene in Harry PotterNag Ashwin said: “It’s a common cliché in many films.”

However, the director went on to reveal that the only inspirations for Kalki 2898 AD were the names of Luke and Sirius. While Luke, played by Harshith Reddy, was named after Luke Skywalker, Sirius, played by Vinay Kumar, got his name after the Harry Potter character.
