Amanda Seyfried Offered More Mothering Roles After Birth of First Child

Amanda Seyfried has revealed she was offered more mothering roles after having her first baby.

At a press conference at the Berlin Film Festival on Thursday for her new film Seven Veils, the actress said she is being cast more often as a mother now that she has children.

“It’s still a little bit new in my career to play a mother,” Amanda, 38, told Variety. “I feel like once I had a baby, I was just playing mothers, and that’s Hollywood.”

The mother-of-two continued: “But I think the roles have become much richer and certainly more challenging than what I had at the beginning of my career.”

In Seven Veils, the Mamma Mia! star plays theater director and mother Jeanine, who is forced to confront her repressed trauma.

“I felt like Jeanine, especially as a mother, trying to figure out where she is in her life as a parent and as a wife who is about to separate from her husband — she’s kind of hanging by a thread everywhere and not being taken as seriously as she would like to be in her career, she just wants more,” Amanda said of her character.

She added: “With every good script and every well-developed character, I can always reflect on my own life. It’s just a side effect of my job, which I love.”

The Dear John star has two children, Nina, six, and Thomas, three, with her husband, theatre actor Thomas Sadoski. The couple have been married since 2017.
