The first trailer for the new horror film The Front Room, starring award-winning singer Brandy Norwood, has been released.

Based on the novella of the same name by Susan Hill, the film “tells the story of a young, recently pregnant couple who are forced to take in an ailing mother-in-law who has long been estranged from the family” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The film, distributed by A24, is set for release in the US on September 6. A UK release date has yet to be announced.

In the jaw-dropping trailer, Norwood’s character, Belinda, learns that her father-in-law has passed away and his final request was for his wife to be cared for by her son and daughter-in-law.

“I’ll give you all the money I have,” the sick mother says, to which her son (Andrew Burnap, played by Snow White) replies, “Everything in me tells me to run away.”

The family home quickly falls apart when the mother’s religious devotion begins to drive a wedge between the characters. “She thinks the Holy Spirit possesses her and gives her power,” Burnap explains.
