The fatherhood initiative, suspended during the COVID pandemic, is returning to Prince William County.

A free pool party is planned at Waterworks Waterpark in Dale City on Saturday, July 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to kick off the relaunch of the Fatherhood Initiative.

Families can bring their children to the party and enjoy each other’s company. business and meet new people. Everyone is welcome. Register for the event at Eventbrite under dad’s pool day.

The Fatherhood Initiative was established in 2012, after the Virginia Department of Human Services found that while Prince William County had excellent social services, the father’s voice was not being heard when decisions were being made about his children, according to a Prince William County news release.

In response, the county established The Fatherhood Initiative aims to ensure that fathers are actively involved in their children’s lives and in important decision-making, the statement said.

The initiative also sponsors support groups to help answer fathers’ questions about how to be more involved with their children and “examine what we can do as fathers together to enrich the lives of children in Prince William County,” said Jeffery Faulkerson, a volunteer with the support groups.

Similar fatherhood groups have been created established around the country.
