Vermont man faces multiple charges after traffic stop

RUTLAND, Vt. (NEWS10) — A Rutland, Vermont man is facing multiple charges after he was arrested on Columbian Avenue in Rutland early Monday morning. Police say 58-year-old Eric Stephens had cocaine on him.

Police stopped Stephens around 1:36 a.m. Monday morning on Columbian Avenue. Police say Stephens was driving with a criminally suspended license and was arrested without incident at the time.

During the stop, police said they observed signs of drug activity and seized the car under a search warrant. Officers obtained permission to search the car and said they found a felony quantity of cocaine.

Police say their investigation revealed that Stephens had been granted conditional release by the court, which prevented him from possessing controlled drugs. He was issued a citation for possession of cocaine, DLS, violation of conditions of release and repeat offender.

He was then taken to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility. He was placed on $100,000 bail.
