Fentanyl, other drugs thrown out window during Bay Area traffic stop

A driver and three passengers were arrested after officers observed them throwing bags of fentanyl and other drugs out of a car window on the 101 Freeway in San Rafael, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The bags flew out the window Friday morning when two CHP officers stopped the driver for speeding, the CHP said.

When officers traced the vehicle’s route, they found 8.3 grams of fentanyl powder, 1.9 grams of methamphetamine, 7.9 grams of heroin, 45.9 grams of suspected cocaine, 2.5 grams of psilocybin and three Xanax pills, the CHP said.

Small amounts of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 50 times more potent than heroin, can be deadly. The amount of fentanyl recovered could amount to 4,100 lethal doses, according to the CHP.

All four occupants of the car were arrested on suspicion of drug possession with intent to sell, the CHP said. No further information was available.
