Data shows Tucson on track to meet or exceed 2023 DUI numbers

TUCSON, AZ (AZFamily) —Tucson police data show the city is on track to match or surpass last year’s drunk driving figures.

The city has seen a steady decrease in DUIs since 2021.

In the past three weeks, three Tucson Police Department vehicles have reportedly been hit by drunk drivers.

In each case, police vehicles had their sirens on and blocked the road for separate investigations.

Francisco Fuentes, 37, and Troby Jose, 28, were two of the suspected drunk drivers who have since been arrested.

The third driver remains in hospital but will be charged once he recovers.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been 128 accidents involving a drunk driver, which is already almost half of the city’s total last year.

“Normally, people slow down and avoid driving directly toward emergency lights. However, the impairment and inattention of these drivers put our officers and community members in serious danger by colliding with our vehicles,” Tucson police said in a social media post.
