A prominent member of La Liga giants Barcelona’s defensive ranks was awarded the first-ever penalty of his career in an international penalty shootout at the weekend.

The player in question? Jules Koundé.

Stopper Koundé made his debut for France on Friday evening.

Especially since the Blues faced off in Portugal, for a place in the semi-finals of the European Championship.

The match was eventually sent to penalties, after a goalless draw for 90 minutes, and an additional half-hour of extra time.

From there, it was France who kept their cool, putting on a display of penalty kicks before converting all five of their attempts from 12 metres out.

And the aforementioned Koundé was among the scorers of the evening, registering an unstoppable effort into the top corner of the Portuguese net.

It may come as a surprise to learn that this was the first penalty of the FC Barcelona star’s career.

Not only that, but, as revealed The TeamKoundé himself put his name forward as one of his country’s five candidates, a remarkable display of confidence and judgment.
